2007 Black Hills
Expedition |
  |
|
updated
03/28/2008 |
This Expedition is a
fantastic way for younger Scouts in the Troop to experience a bit of
high adventure. It is aimed at 2nd, 3rd, and 4th
year Scouts (those who are not old enough for the BSA High Adventures
such as Northern Tier, Sea Base, and Philmont). This experience
will give the Scouts a chance to have fun with fellow comrades and
participate in activities that will nearly equal the higher BSA
adventures.
The Black Hills Expedition
is not solely about sight-seeing and having fun. We intend to
create an Expedition for Scouts in which they are able to learn teamwork
and leadership. For some, this may be their first experience; for
others this may be a chance to practice and reinforce existing skills.
Like the 2005 Expedition,
the 2007 Expedition will offer Scouts opportunities for 2nd
Class & 1st Class Rank Advancement. Work toward earning
Merit Badges such as Camping, Hiking, Cooking, Nature, Astronomy,
Geology, Archaeology, and Indian Lore will also be offered. Many of the
activities planned for this Expedition are intended to give the boys a
great start. A generalized itinerary is included below.
The senior boy leadership
and adult leaders in charge of the Expedition pledge the following goals
and objectives for the Expedition:
-
Scouts will have fun!!!
-
Scouts will share in
various outdoor adventures and explorations;
-
Scouts will review
current Scouting knowledge;
-
Scouts will have the
opportunity to apply current Scouting knowledge;
-
Scouts will have the
opportunities for rank advancement/merit badges;
-
Scouts will learn
various skills in team-building, communications, and ethics;
-
Scouts will learn the
basic fundamentals of leadership;
-
Scouts will have fun!!!
