 Knife & Axe Instructor

Job Description

The Knife and Axe Instructor is proficient in all aspects of tool care and sharpening, tool use, and tool safety.

He keeps a list of Scouts who have earned their Totin' Chip Card. 

 He uses his skills to help other Scouts with their advancement, and to help the Troop prepare for Camporee competitions.

He actively seeks out Scouts who may need his assistance.

He attends all campouts so that he will be available to help with skill training. He gives "Tips of the Month" at Troop Meetings, posting them afterwards on the bulletin board.

He attends PLC meetings and Junior Leader Training, and writes a monthly article for the newsletter. He keeps his notebook updated, and passes it on to the next Scout to hold his position.

Suggested Goals

  • Attend all campouts during the next 6 months.
  • Attend all Troop Meetings and activities during the next 6 months.
  • Attend all PLC meetings for the next 6 months.
  • Assist other Scouts with the knife and axe use and handling requirements for Scout, Tenderfoot, 2nd Class, and 1st Class ranks.
  • Conduct knife and axe safety and handling reviews before Camporee competitions.
  • Present Knife and Axe Tips at Troop Meetings.
  • Attend Junior Leader Training.
  • Write a monthly article for The Reconnaissance.
  • Keep this notebook updated.
  • Pass this notebook on to the next Knot Instructor.
  • Assist in the next Knife and Axe Instructor’s transition.
