Troop Guide

Job Description

This older Scout, at least 1st Class in rank, is both a leader and a "big brother" to a Patrol of new Scouts. The Troop will appoint two Troop Guides to each Patrol of new Scouts.

The Troop Guides will attend all campouts, assisting new Scouts as they learn camping skills. 

He will encourage and help them with their advancement.

He will monitor each new Scout’s activity level, and contact any Scout who appears to be falling behind.

He helps new Scouts to understand the Patrol Method of Scouting, and encourages them as they learn to use teamwork as a tool for building an effective Patrol.

He attends PLC meetings and Junior Leader Training, and writes a monthly article for the newsletter.

He keeps his notebook updated, and passes it on to the next Scout to hold his position.

Suggested Goals

  • Attend all campouts during the next 6 months;

  • Attend all Troop Meetings and activities during the next 6 months;
  • Attend all PLC meetings for the next 6 months;
  • Assist new Scouts and their families in their transition to the Boy Scout program;
  • Track new Scouts' advancement and assist any Scout who is struggling;
  • Teach new Scouts how to perform skills; Don’t do the skills for them;
  • Assist the new Patrol in their understanding of task delegation, and make sure that all Patrol members carry their own weight;
  • Attend Junior Leader Training;
  • Write a monthly article for The Reconnaissance;
  • Keep this notebook updated;
  • Turn this notebook in to the Scoutmaster at the end of your term;
